SUBMIssion guidelines
Thank you for considering The Parallax! Please refer to our mission statement to see if our journal is a good fit for your work. When you are ready to submit to us, please carefully review our guidelines below. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
We accept prose, poetry, and visual art submissions from young writers and artists (aged 14-25 at time of submission) who identify as Asian-American. Submissions are open year-round.
Email all submissions to [email protected]. The subject line should read as follows: "Genre - Last Name, First Name." We accept simultaneous submissions, but we do not accept previously published work unless we've explicitly stated otherwise. If your piece is accepted elsewhere, please let us know immediately.
Prose Submission Guidelines:
Send us a maximum of three pieces at a time. Each piece should not be longer than 1,500 words. Each prose submission should include the following:

Visual Art Submission Guidelines:
Send us up to 10 pieces at a time. We welcome all types of art and photography. Note that all submitted work will be considered for the issue cover and may be featured on our website. Each art/photography submission should include the following:
We reserve First North American Serial Rights for any submission; upon publication, all rights revert back to the author. If your work later appears in another publication, please note that it was originally published in The Parallax.
Upon acceptance, we reserve the right to make minor edits (i.e. correcting spelling or grammar). All authors whose work has been accepted will get a chance to take a look at the issue before publication in case they wish to make any minor edits or have any concerns regarding our changes.
Any evidence of plagiarized work will result in an automatic rejection of your submission. We will not respond to submissions that promote racism, homophobia, sexism, ableism, classism, or any other form of hate and intolerance.
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to pay a monetary sum to contributors for their brilliance and hard work. However, every submission will receive personalized feedback from our editors!

- The written work, submitted as a PDF or Microsoft Word document. Do not include any identifying information in the submitted work(s), or in the title(s).
- All poems should be in one document with one poem per page
Visual Art Submission Guidelines:
Send us up to 10 pieces at a time. We welcome all types of art and photography. Note that all submitted work will be considered for the issue cover and may be featured on our website. Each art/photography submission should include the following:
- A brief third-person bio (3 - 5 sentences).
- The images in JPG or PNG format. do not include any identifying information in the submitted work(s), or in the title(s).
- If the submitted work is part of a series (a comic strip, for example), please number each image file in the order in which they should appear.
